Letters that Swiss Post cannot sort by machine are not scanned. You continue to receive these physically in your letterbox.
What is delivered physically?
In general, there are formats that are always delivered physically. These include:
- items thicker than 2.5 cm
- poorly legible writing
- the recipient address does not fully match Swiss Post's master data
- the recipient address is not fully legible at the letter centre (e.g. contents shifted in a window envelope)
- frequently when c/o addresses are used (when there is no clear assignment or no order)
- similarly named recipients at the same address
The ScanningService of ePost Service Ltd uses Swiss Post's «Auto» sorting format. This means that all machine-sortable letters are forwarded. What is not recognised by machine continues to be delivered physically to your address. Due to the purely machine-based sorting, it can happen that letters that would seemingly be sortable nevertheless end up in the letterbox.
Why can 100 per cent of letters not be forwarded?
The forwarding of your mail takes place via an automated sorting process in which letters are processed by machine. Not every item can be recognised and forwarded in the process. Some letters are therefore still delivered physically to your letterbox.
We therefore recommend checking your letterbox regularly.
