Standard letter formats that Swiss Post's machines can automatically scan in «Format Auto» will be forwarded to the scanning centre. Letters that cannot be processed (e.g., due to illegibility, incorrect address, etc.) will be delivered in their physical form. Furthermore, packages will continue to be delivered physically.
Mail will not be redirected in the following instances:
- Mail exceeding a thickness of 2.5 cm
- Illegible handwriting
- Recipient's address does not fully correspond with Swiss Post master data
- Recipient's address could not be completely read at the sorting facility (e.g., contents of a window envelope displaced)
- Frequent use of c/o addresses (unless explicitly assigned or requested)
- Recipients with similar-sounding names residing at the same address
The following items will not be scanned:
- Ballot papers
- Cash, cheques (bank/post, lunch, REKA), gift cards (Kunsthof)
- Tickets and admission passes (train tickets, concert tickets, etc.)
- Confidential PIN code letters (bank/post)
- Bank/post credit cards
- Identification cards and passports
- SIM cards (mobile SIM cards)
- Hardware (electronic devices, USB cables, CDs, etc.)
- Undeliverable correspondence and returns
