The common letter formats are forwarded to the Scancenter. There, Swiss Post processes them using automated capture «Format Auto».
If a letter is not recognised, for example due to illegibility or an incorrect address, you receive it physically. Parcels are also always delivered to you physically.
In these cases, items are not forwarded:
- Items thicker than 2.5 cm
- Poorly legible writing
- The recipient address does not fully match Swiss Post's master data
- The recipient address is not fully legible at the letter centre (e.g. with shifted contents in a window envelope)
- Frequently when c/o addresses are used, when there is no clear assignment or no corresponding order
- Similarly named recipients at the same address
The following documents are not scanned:
- Ballot papers
- Vehicle registration documents
- Cash, cheques (bank/post, Lunch, Reka) as well as plastic gift cards
- Tickets and admission tickets (e.g. train tickets, concert tickets)
- Letters with a covered PIN code (bank/post)
- Bank and postal credit cards
- Identity documents and passports
- SIM cards for mobile phones
- Hardware such as electronic devices, USB cables, CDs, etc.
- Undeliverable correspondence or returns
