Hybrid mail bridges the gap between digital creation and physical delivery. In this article, you will learn how the system works and the advantages of the different delivery options.
1. What is a hybrid letter?
A hybrid letter is created digitally by you (e.g. as a PDF) and transmitted to ePost for delivery. Depending on the recipient’s preference or the selected option, delivery is carried out:
- Digitally: directly to the recipient’s digital mailbox (e.g. ePost)
- Physically: printed, enveloped and delivered by post
2. What delivery methods are available?
Two main methods are available:
- Fully digital: the letter is sent encrypted to a digital mailbox
- Classic physical: the letter is printed and delivered by post
Note: Only PDF documents up to 25 MB are supported.
3. Digital delivery options: ePost Standard vs. ePost Plus
ePost Standard (with delivery confirmation)
- Confirmation of successful delivery to the digital mailbox
- Suitable for basic proof of delivery
ePost Plus (with open and non-open confirmation)
- Confirmation when the document is opened
- Notification if the document is not opened within 7 days
- Higher traceability of recipient behaviour
4. Physical delivery options
The following delivery types are available:
- A-Post
- B-Post
- A-Post Plus
- Registered mail
Documents are printed, enveloped and sent by post.
Shipping costs are calculated based on the number of pages in the PDF document.
For physical delivery, the document is transferred to the ePost Service AG print center, where it is processed and then sent by post. For each shipment, an additional page is added to the submitted PDF, which serves as a cover sheet for postal delivery.
From this point on, the status “Handed over to postal service” is displayed in the app for the sent letter.
5. Note Duration of physical shipping options
When must I send my letter in the Swiss Post-App at the latest so that it is printed and physically shipped on the same day?
The cut-off time for A Mail, A Mail Plus and Registered is 10:00. Digital letters sent via the Post-App by this time are printed and shipped on the same working day and reach the recipient on the next working day. If you send your letter after 10:00, it will be produced and delivered the following working day.
6. Why use ePost Plus?
ePost Plus is particularly suitable for important documents:
- Legal certainty: better proof (e.g. for deadlines)
- Transparency: you know whether the recipient has read the document
7. Is hybrid delivery secure?
Yes. Transmission is end-to-end encrypted.
The systems comply with Swiss data protection regulations.
Note: Physical delivery abroad is currently not supported.
8. Contact selection
You can:
- enter an address manually or
- select a contact from the ePost address book
The address book can be automatically synchronised with your device.
9. Sent letters
In the “Sent” section, you will find all sent messages (digital and physical).
The current status of each delivery can be viewed at any time.
